Residents in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to stay on their guard once more as another strike by firefighters looms.
The Fire Brigades Union have announced the walkout between 10am and 2pm on November 13.
And despite receiving fewer calls than usual during previous strikes, Staffordshire’s Chief Fire Officer says there can be no room for complacency.
“We have received significantly fewer calls during the strike periods, compared to the average number of incidents reported during identical time periods over the last three years,” he said. “This is very encouraging and I would like to thank the community for their efforts in helping us to achieve this outcome.
“However, this is an on-going national dispute and we cannot afford to be complacent. During strike periods we answer all 999 calls to the service – but our capacity to respond to all incidents is reduced and we cannot guarantee ‘business as usual’.
“Therefore, I am urging residents, motorists and employers to continue to heed the safety advice we are distributing via the media, our prevention teams, partner organisations and our website as well as via leaflets, posters and advertising. This information is vital and could have life-saving consequences.”
