A former shop opposite Lichfield Cathedral could be converted into residential accommodation if plans are given the go-ahead.

The site on The Close had previously been home to the Cathedral Shop before it moved into a unit in the Three Spires Shopping Centre.
Now planning permission is being sought to convert the building into a ground floor flat.
A statement supporting the application says: “The property was converted from a single dwelling in the latter part of the 20th Century and dived into separate units of accommodation with a flat on each on the first and second floor and a shop on the ground floor.
“The listed building requires renovation to return it to a suitable condition to allow it to be rented to new tenants.”
The internal works would see partition walls reinstated and the creation of a kitchen, sitting room, bathroom, study and two bedrooms. It would also be rewired throughout.
Full details of the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
