A SUSTAINABLE gardening product is growing thanks to a funding programme.
Kateland Flock, a Blithbury producer of wool products, has used the Rural Grants Funding from Lichfield District Council to invest in specialist machinery that transforms raw wool into nutrient-rich garden pellets which are a natural alternative to synthetic fertilisers.
A total of £17,500 was allocated to the project as part of efforts to promote innovation and long term resilience in rural companies.
Katie Stanley, owner of Kateland Flock said:
“It’s been a learning curve because this type of pellet production is still quite rare, but we’ve had fantastic support from the machine suppliers and are really happy with the final result.
“The wool pellets are now officially launched and packaged in tubs ranging from 2.5 litres to ten litres.”
The wool pellets, which are slow-releasing, water-retaining and completely organic, are already gaining traction.
Kateland Flock has summer shows lined up to promote the product and has secured a retail agreement with a local plant nursery where the pellets will be available in the coming weeks.
