Green homes in Lichfield have opened their door to visitors.
Around 60 people took part in the event which was organised by Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group (WFEG).
Among the eco-tips on offer were everything from using landing railings for clothes drying, to a hi-tech home heated entirely by an air-source heat pump powered by solar photovoltaic panels. Other features included two homes heated by biomass boilers, fuelled by wood pellets which come from compressed waste products like sawdust.
Mike Kinghan, Chair of WFEG, said:
“We were very pleased with the level of interest in this event which was oversubscribed. It’s clear that there is a tremendous surge of interest in finding cheaper and better ways of heating and powering our homes in ways which also help to reduce the dangerously high levels of greenhouse gases that humans are producing.
“Hopefully we will be able to do the same again next year and we’d be interested to hear from any more eco-homeowners willing to open their houses to visitors.”
