A group calling for a second Brexit referendum claim Lichfield residents want to see people given the chance to decide on how the UK’s departure from the European Union should be handled.
Members of the newly-created Peoples Vote branch in the city were in the Market Square on 12th January looking to gauge local views as MPs prepare to vote on Theresa May’s deal.
They asked people to decide whether they felt the Cabinet, MPs or another referendum should be used to decide the future of the country.
The results saw 44 people opt for the Cabinet, 6 for MPs and 159 for the people to have the power.
A spokesperson for the group said: “This clearly showed the preference was overwhelmingly for a second referendum and will be used to influence our elected representatives.
“People were also asked to write to their MP so as to inform the debate in Parliament in the coming week and beyond.”
