Plans for a heritage trail around Burntwood will be discussed by councillors at a meeting this week.
The Friends of Burntwood Library group is hoping to secure £5,000 in community infrastructure levy funding to help develop the project.
As well as restoring existing plaques and signs highlighting heritage assets across the town, the initiative would also see the use of technology such as QR codes to enhance the experience for those using the trail.
A report to Burntwood Town Council’s planning and development committee said the scheme would link in with existing sites and organisations.
Burntwood has three historic heritage trails, but over time, some of the plaques have fallen into in disrepair and, in many cases, are missing.
“The heritage trail books are no longer available and the maps are dated and not user friendly.
“This project would bring a modernised Heritage Trail Book, renew and revitalise the signage, replace old signs and add additional signs where needed.
“Also, once complete there is the option to do a virtual trail with QR Codes linking to a website and virtual map.”

The total cost of the project is expected to be more than £9,200, with sponsorship and other fundraising to be used alongside the community infrastructure levy cash.
“The goal is to revitalise and modernise the heritage yrail and have an engaging and attractive publication available to everyone at a sensible cost, and to raise residents’ pride in the heritage and history of Burntwood.
“Support from Burntwood Town Council would help foster pride of place as one of the main supporters of this project.”

The proposal will be discussed at the meeting at St John’s Community Church on Thursday (12th May).
