HAMMERWICH kept themselves in the hunt for the title with an eight-wicket victory at Wolverhampton 2nds.

After sending the hosts in to bat first, Scott Elstone picked up an early wicket when he had opener Oliver Brown caught by Benjamin Rogers for just four – and then repeated the trick with Brown’s replacement Oliver Margetts going for 11 with John Jennings bagging the catch this time.

The Hammerwich bowler was in a purple patch as more wickets fell when he trapped Hriman Sanyal lbw and caught and bowled Harmanpreet Singh to leave the score on 38-4.

Ben Novis pouched a catch from the bowling of Hasnain Nawaz to see off James Turner to make it 38-5, before a knock of 61 not out from Ravi Kumar salvaged the Wolverhampton innings which finished on 135-8.

Elstone secured figures of 4-31 with the ball, while John Jennings enjoyed numbers of 3-46.

The Hammerwich response was ruthless after Kumar had bowled Novis for just five, with opener Tom Wright hitting 54.

Imran Qadir’s knock of 50 and Elstone’s 27 saw the visitors past the total for the loss of just two wickets.
