HAMMERWICH moved to the summit of the table after a victory at Tamworth 2nds.
Milford Hall’s defeat at Wombourne meant the Hammers recaptured top spot in the South Staffordshire Cricket League Premier Division as they head into the crunch period of the season.
The decision to bat after winning the toss proved to be a good one for the visitors as Imran Qadir struck 129 from 151 balls and his opening partner Tom Wright also struck 64.
Tom Kinson claimed figures of 5-95 as Tamworth looked to halt the charge – but Hammerwich were still able to make 284-5 from their 50 overs.
The target was always likely to be a tough one for the home side to chase down, although they made a bright start by making 43 before the first wicket fell.
But it was soon followed by two more as Tamworth slipped to 46-3.
The hosts rallied as opener George Baker hung about and was aided by a stubborn tail which saw Luke Van Zyl hit 21 and Jack Smith make 25.
Hammerwich kept their focus though and when Baker eventually became the final wicket to fall when he was trapped lbw by Sajid Ahmadzai, Tamworth had only managed 176.
Hasnain Nawaz was the pick of the Hammers bowling attack as he finished with figures of 4-40.
