A JACK Edwards hat-trick helped Lichfield City through to the next round of the Staffordshire Senior Cup.
Ivor Green’s men had fallen behind to Newcastle Town in the opening stages, but hit back with four goals in 14 minutes to take control of the tie, eventually winning 5-3.
The visitors were in front with just three minutes on the clock when Ernest Ofusu’s strike from distance beat Brendon Bunn.
But Lichfield looked to hit back immediately with Dan Lomas’ strike cannoning off the post before Jude Taylor fired over.
The leveller eventually arrived on 20 minutes when Taylor and Edwards combined for the latter to curl an effort into the top corner.
Moments later and City had turned the game on its head as Edwards robbed the defender and found the net with a low strike.
Edwards then wrapped up a 12 minute hat-trick with a lob the crept under the bar.
Lichfield weren’t done for the first half though as Taylor added his name to the scoresheet on 34 minutes with an effort that gave the visiting keeper no chance.
City continued pushing for more in the second half – and made it 5-1 when Josh Mansell powered home a 30-yard strike.
Newcastle pulled one back after Joel Jones beat Bunn with a low shot.
The final goal also went the way of the visitors as they grabbed a late consolation to make it 5-3 when Jones added his second.
