LABOUR councillors say their focus will ensure the voices of all residents can be heard over the coming year.
Members of the opposition group at Lichfield District Council set out their agenda for the next 12 months after an away day event at the weekend.
Cllr Sue Woodward, Labour group leader, said they were keen to build on the positives achieved over the past year.
“We have changed the way politics works at the council since the May 2023 elections to make sure that every community across the district and the residents we represent – all of them rather than a small section – are getting their voices heard.
“It takes a lot of commitment and hard work and we’re all up for that.”
The Labour councillors used the meeting to agree the priorities they want to focus on and the ways in which they intend to influence council policy, including on housing, planning, community safety, the environment and equalities.
Cllr Colin Ball, who chaired the discussions, said:
“It was a very successful and upbeat day after a successful year and a half.
“We have formed positive partnerships across political lines and have developed good working relationships with cabinet members and council staff.
“We have a very capable and diverse group of Labour councillors and intend to push forward over this next year focussing on the manifesto promises we made to electors – to create a fairer, greener, safer and healthier district.
“We will exploit all of the opportunities we have to promote our case.”
Cllr Ball also praised new Lichfield Labour MP Dave Robertson:
“Dave’s election has given Labour a huge boost locally and I know that he’ll be doing all he can to help his fellow Labour representatives in the years ahead.”
