CHASETOWN suffered late agony as they went down 3-2 at Trafford.
The Scholars went close in the opening exchanges with an impressive effort from Jordan Evans that was well saved.
At the other end, Curtis Pond had to be alert to prevent a floated cross from creeping in.
The Scholars kept looking to unlock the scoreboard with George Cater and Danny Glover going close.
The breakthrough for Chasetown finally came when Cater found Oli Hayward who slotted home for a half time lead.
In the second period, Cater managed to evade a defender but failed to find the right angle to beat the home keeper.
A few moments later, Evans unleashed a powerful volley, but Sam Booth was once again on hand to keep the ball out.
Trafford leveled when Kanye Nisbett netted, only for Chasetown to restore their advantage when Cater fed Hayward who found the back of the net.
The scores were level again though when a cross from Josh Wood saw Matty Lusakueno head past Pond.
The drama continued as Trafford were awarded a late penalty which Rio Clegg converted to send Chasetown home empty-handed.
