THE Liberal Democrats have confirmed their candidate for a Lichfield District Council by-election following the resignation of the local authority’s former leader.
The Alrewas and Fradley seat will be up for grabs after the resignation of independent member Mike Wilcox who stepped down for “personal reasons”.
Morag Maclean will, who worked as a nurse and NHS manager before her retirement, will represent the Lib Dems in the vote on 24th July.
She said:
“I’m determined that our area should get a better deal. I care about the future of this area and would always put our community first as a local councillor.
“My working life was spent with the NHS – and healthcare and social care issues are very close to my heart.
“The problem of social care is one that concerns me, and it is also a core issue with the Liberal Democrats. Where it is possible for me as a district councillor to push much needed reforms and changes to the current system, I will do so.”
Residents can also register for postal votes online ahead of the by-election.
Cllr Paul Ray, leader of the Lib Dem group at Lichfield District Council, said:
“Morag will be a fantastic addition to the Lib Dem team. She brings a fresh face and new ideas, which I am sure will resonate not only with us but with the voters of Alrewas and Fradley too. I look forward to her joining us at the council.”
