Staffordshire’s highways chief has urged motorists to take care – despite an improvement in the weather.
Although Lichfield and Burntwood escaped the worst of the flooding drama, the A513 near the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas was affected as was the A38.
Despite forecasters predicting an easing of the downpours, Cllr Mike Maryon, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said drivers still needed to be alert.
“The amount of rain that fell on already saturated ground was exceptional and out crews did an excellent job of making the roads as safe as possible in some very challenging conditions,” he said.
“While we may have escaped the worst of the flooding, it will take time for water levels to drop and I would urge drivers to slow down and watch out for standing water and spray from the roads.”
