Budding rock stars in Lichfield and Burntwood are being given the chance to sign up for a Staffordshire music competition.
Staffordshire Performing Arts have opened applications for Staffordshire Rocks, the annual contest that sees high school bands battle it out to win an array of prizes, as well as giving them the chance to showcase their material to a large live audience.
County Councillor Liz Staples said:
“Staffordshire Rocks is a great way of getting your band out there in the public eye, as well as winning fantastic prizes. The heats and finals are always extremely exciting, and I am often astounded at the talent we have in this county. This competition is a great way to showcase that, and give bands a welcome boost to their rock career.”
Heats will be held throughout May and June, at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Cannock, Thomas Alleyne’s High School in Uttoxeter, and Wolstanton High School in Newcastle. The winning band, plus one runner up from each heat will make it through to the grand final at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford, along with three wildcard entries.
Groups of any ability are encouraged to enter the competition. To enter, bands must study in Staffordshire and have an endorsement from their school. Application forms are available at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/spa, where there is more information about the competition.
