The historic Lady Chapel at Lichfield Cathedral is set to reopen after 17 months of restoration work.
The closure has seen the removal of the Herkenrode Glass so that it can be repaired.
The chapel will be visible from tomorrow (November 26), with public access resuming on December 6.
The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber said:
“Although we are sad to say farewell to one of our Cathedral treasures as it begins its long journey to restoration, we are very pleased to reclaim the Lady Chapel as we approach the period of Advent.
“The glass is now out of sight but should not be out of mind, as we continue to strive to raise the vital funds needed to return these glorious windows to Lichfield fully restored.”
A further £980,000 is required to complete the work on the Herkenrode Glass.
There has been major disruption to the Cathedral since July 2009 when a fire-proof screen was put up, sealing off everything east of the aisles from floor to ceiling.
An official ceremony to mark the re-opening of the Lady Chapel will take place early in 2011.
