A coffee outlet in Lichfield is hoping to give voters the chance to quiz by-election candidates.
Melbourne, in Bolt Court in the city centre, holds regular ‘coffee with a copper’ events, but is now branching out ahead of the forthcoming Stowe ward ballot.
Seats on Lichfield District Council and Lichfield City Council will be up for grabs later this month following the resignation of Conservative member David Smedley.
Deb Pease, owner of the Melbourne coffee shop, believes it’s crucial people can find out more about their potential elected representatives.
She said: “I really believe that Lichfield thrives when we all work together and as the council has such a big influence over our everyday lives.
“It’s important that we all understand what the choices are at the election.”
The first candidate to sign up is Philip John, who will be standing for the Something New party.
He said: “The coffee with a copper event was incredibly informative and useful – I even helped get action on a local issue for a neighbour – so when Deb and I started talking about a candidate event I jumped at the chance. Plus, the coffee is excellent.”
