Commuters in Lichfield have been told that a £41million Government investment in train services will have a “positive impact” on the area.
The money will see capacity increased on London Midland services across the country.
Cllr Ben Adams, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for economic growth and enterprise, said the investment was good news for everyone across the county.
“Improved transport links are vital for Staffordshire’s continued economic growth so this investment goes hand in hand with the work we are doing to attract investment and increase prosperity,” he said.
“We have great transport links in Staffordshire and are at the heart of the country, but better access to our towns from the rest of the country means more people will have greater employment and leisure opportunities and bring in business.
“London Midland serves Tamworth, Lichfield, Rugeley, Stafford, Stone and Penkridge so this really will have a positive impact on Staffordshire as early as next year.”
In addition to increased capacity, the investment is also aiming to deliver faster services.
