People living near Lichfield have been learning how to slash their driving costs.

The advice has come from the Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group (WFEG) who have organised the smarter driving course to help residents cut the amount of fuel they use.

Drivers who took part completed a circuit before and after training with their mpg measured for both so that drivers could see for themselves how much they saved.

Organisers of the Energy Savings Trust-funded event say the techniques learned could cut fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent and reduce vehicle wear and tear.

Chairman of WFEG, Mike Kinghan, said:

“This is the first time we have done this and it’s been a terrific success. We are running it again on September 18 and will put on further courses if there is demand. There is a small charge of £10 for Whittington and Fisherwick residents and £20 for people living outside the parish to help cover our costs.”
