Lichfield golfer Robert Rock is celebrating after landing his first European Tour victory.
The Armitage man’s nine-year wait for a victory came to an end when he claimed the Italian Open with a nerve-jangling one shot lead.
And while he believed he would perform well in Turin, Rock admitted he’d exceeded his expectations.
He told Sky Sports:
“I have been waiting a long time to be even in with a chance of doing this. I am very happy. It’s a fantastic feeling – it’s one of my favourite courses now. Since they changed the venue I have done well here.
“I was expecting to do well this week but not really expecting this.”
Rock secured the victory at 21-under – one ahead of fellow countryman Gary Boyd and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen – after tapping in for the required par five on the last hole.
