The history of one of Staffordshire’s most lavish, yet short-lived, country estates will be unearthed by members of a Lichfield local history group.
Woodhouse Farm and Garden near Whittington will be the destination for Lichfield Discovered on Saturday (September 27).
As well as finding out about its past, the group will learn about how it has been transformed into a social enterprise which works to connect the community with local food and produces fruit, vegetables, eggs and rare breed meat.
A spokesperson said: “In 1761, Fisherwick Hall was acquired by Arthur Chichester, the Earl – and later Marquess – of Donegall, who transformed the existing Tudor house into a luxurious Palladian mansion.
“Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown was employed to work his magic on the surrounding landscape, and despite the hall’s demolition at the start of the 19th Century, traces of his work can still be found here today.”
