FINLAY Lines celebrated a top five finish in the latest round of the FIA European Karting Championship in Germany.

Competing in the highly competitive FIA Karting Academy Trophy Junior class, the Lichfield racer faced a number of challenges, but showcased exceptional pace, especially in the final.

After strong times in practice and qualifying, Lines’ chances in the heat races were affected by those around him, meaning he ended up 11th on the grid for the final.

Despite the setback, the city youngster mounted an impressive comeback drive as he worked his way up to third.

As he closed in on the leaders, Lines picked up the pace to set the fastest lap of the race by three-tenths of a second.

His efforts to climb higher were thwarted by yellow flags which neutralised the race, leaving him just eight laps to regain his momentum – but contact at the restart sent Lines back to eighth in the field.

The youngster again showed his fighting spirit as he battled back to eventually claim fourth spot.
