A 21-year-old Lichfield man has been jailed for three years after drugs and a knife were found in his car.

Rhys Cowan

Rhys Cowan of Dovehouse Fields pleaded guilty at Stafford Crown Court to offering to supply class A drugs, possession with intent to supply class B drugs and offering to supply class B and class C drugs.

He was also sentenced for possessing a knife and given an additional three months for committing an offence while on a suspended sentence.

The court heard that on 3rd February this year police stopped a Toyota Ago in Ivanhoe Road at around 4pm.

The car was searched and cannabis vegetation, £200 in cash, two mobile phones and a kitchen knife confiscated. Cowan was arrested for possession with intent to supply drugs and possession of the knife.

Sergeant Karen Green, of Lichfield District Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is a significant result and we’re glad for the support of the local community.

“Cowan was jailed as a result of an effective stop and search and an ongoing operation conducted by police community support officers who worked with the local community to gather evidence and build a case.”

Further items were seized in a house search.
