A Lichfield museum is celebrating after seeing a large increase in visitors.
The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum welcomed 900 people during January – up 80 per cent from the previous year, according to figures from Lichfied City Council.
School visits and guided tours helped to drive numbers.
A report to Lichfield City Council said: “This [January] is often a quiet month, but the figures reveal an 80 per cent increase on January 2013.
“Postive feedback from general visitors has also been received through the TripAdvisor website and the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum has been awarded their certificate of Excellence for 2013 – awarded only to the top ten percent of attractions in the UK which consistently received ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ ratings.”
The museum is hoping to build on the strong start to 2014 with events such as a women’s history workshop, calligraphy display, World Book Night event and a family craft workshop.
