The home life of Charles Darwin will be under the spotlight in a talk at a Lichfield museum.
Erasmus Darwin House will host Charles Darwin at Down House: An Ordinary Life for an Extraordinary Man on May 2 at 6.30pm.
Down House was his home and workplace for 40 years and where he began experimenting with plants and breeding pigeons to explore his theory of natural selection.
But on a personal level, it was also the place where he raised a large family with his wife Emma.
The talk will see the curator of Down House, Annie Kemkaran-Smith, explaining how Charles’ early life and influences, voyage around the world and his family life all played a part in his work.
Alison Wallis, manager of Erasmus Darwin House, said “We don’t really have space in the museum to talk about Charles’ achievements as well as those of his grandfather, which is a shame since it is the Darwin name which brings in some of our visitors, but this is our attempt at addressing that and I think it will be a captivating talk.”
