Lichfield British Superbikes ace Gary Mason finally showed what he was capable after a strong weekend at Knockhill.
The MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider shrugged off the bad luck and technical difficulties that have plagued him in the past to notch up a fourth and sixth place finish.
The result leaves Mason in ninth place in the championship and gives him a solid foundation to build on.
He said:
“After such a good qualifying I was really looking forward to a dry race day at Knockhill. I managed to hold second place for nearly half the first race but John Hopkins overtook me and when Shane Byrne came past he was so strong I had to settle for fourth as I started to suffer from arm pump, which m
the second race but the safety car incidents allowed me to regain position and sixth is a good result considering the conditions.”
Team owner Nick Morgan believes a recent garage reshuffle has already paid dividends for the Lichfield man.
He explained:
“Gary had a fabulous weekend and Andrew Pitt joining the team as his crew chief has certainly helped his confidence. Sometimes you need someone to help settle the rider and allow him get what he wants out of the bike and Andrew’s huge experience allows him to do this.
“He rode so well in the first race and was very unlucky to get punted back to 16th in the second but recovered superbly to take sixth.”
