The history of electricity will be up for discussion at a talk in Lichfield.
Erasmus Darwin House will be the venue for Dr Nicholas Cambridge’s illustrated talk Sparks, Shocks & Magnets: Benjamin Franklin, Erasmus Darwin & Franz Mesmer, which takes place as part of National Science & Engineering Week.
The lecture will trace the knowledge and understanding of electricity from the ancients up until the early 19th Century and include the various people who were involved in attempting to unravel its effects.
A spokesperson said:
“During the 18th Century electricity was a popular combination of amateur science and parlour magic. It was also a time when electricity was used in treating patients and these practitioners included Benjamin Franklin, John Wesley, William Cowper, Erasmus Darwin and Franz Mesmer.”
