Lichfield unemployment up 160 per cent – report

Published:

Unemployment in Lichfield is up 160 per cent in the last 12 months, according to a new report in the Birmingham Post.

The report has been used to highlight the way the current financial downturn has hit hard in places not usually noted for their unemployment rates.

However, the report also notes that the areas mentioned – which include Aldridge and Sutton Coldfield – have lower numbers of unemployed in total. But nevertheless, it’s still a worrying figure.

It’s not difficult to see first hand that the financial downturn is biting hard even in ‘leafy Lichfield’ and this report is further confirmation of that. You only have to have a wander through the city centre to see the number of shops closing and the fewer people in those that are left than usual.

Let’s just hope that Lichfield can sail through these turbulent waters without too many residents falling overboard.
