A Lichfield woman is rowing from London to Paris to raise money for charity.
Emma Stockton, from Fradley, will embark on the team challenge in aid of Help for Heroes after her husband Andy was injured in Afghanistan.
“He was serving with 32 Regiment Royal Artiller when his convoy was ambushed a rocket-propelled grenade was fired, severing his left arm,” she recalled. “Luckily it didn’t detonate.
“I chose The Real Boat Race because I’d always wanted to do something for Help for Heroes and the timing was right.
“I’d been at home bringing up our children Edward (3) and Emilia (2), I’d recently joined The Band of Sisters – a support network for the wives and mothers of injured soldiers – when an email was sent asking for volunteers. I thought that I needed to do something different and something that would push me to the limits and beyond.
“I am not a rower and before this I had never rowed. I’m just a Mum of two trying to raise awareness and money for Help for Heroes, a charity close to my heart.”
