LICHFIELD’S women made it three wins on the bounce after ending Cheltenham Tigers’ unbeaten run.
The result has opened up the top end of the division and has helped the Myrtle Greens move up to fifth in the table.
Lichfield, playing with the elements in the first period at Cooke Fields, played the right tactics by kicking sensibly and then took what points were available.
Jess Panayiotou drove over from close range to open the scoring in the opening five minutes, with the second try coming from a telling break from debutant Alex Baker and she found substitute Leilah Mills to take the score to 17-5, with Izzy McGuire being 100% successful with her two conversions and a penalty.
Cheltenham retaliated with a short range try of their own and a score out wide to make it 17-10 at the break.
The visitors probably expected the second half to be all one way traffic, but it was not the case. They were kept scoreless for around 30 minutes until their right wing streaked over from the ten metre line.
But the Lichfield defence held tight to close out the game.
Elsewhere, the 2nds also turned on the style to beat top of the table West Bridgford 41-31.
Tries came from Phoenix Robinson (4), Sarah Baugh, Em Williams and Clara Such, with Williams (2) and Issy Davies adding the conversions.
