An event in Lichfield honouring the Olympics past and present has been given the official 2012 seal of approval.
Ye Olde Games will take place in and around the city centre on September 17 and 18 as part of Lichfield Heritage Weekend.
Highlights of the two-day event will include a family Olympic torch hunt, hobby horse racing, dressing up in togas, bow and arrow making, as well as performances by the Lichfield Mysteries and the Aspire Drama Group.
And the event has been boosted after it was granted the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme.
Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, said:
“We were thrilled to be awarded the Inspire mark. It is a coveted badge of the 2012 Games, and it is great that Lichfield’s Heritage Weekend has been recognised in this way.
“Excitement is mounting as the September event draws nearer, and we hope lots of people will put the date in their diary and join us for Ye Olde Games.”
The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Seb Coe, chair of the London Organising Committee for 2012, said:
