RESIDENTS attending a public meeting have been reassured that a new health centre will be built in the town despite years of delays.
The new facility has been earmarked for land at Cherry Close to replace the now-closed health and wellbeing centre at Burntwood Leisure Centre.
But despite bosses of the Integrated Care Board (ICB) telling councillors back in 2023 that the health centre would be up and running by the end of 2025, no spades have gone in the ground so far on the development.
Dave Robertson MP hosted the public meeting in the town after concerns the scheme could miss out on £1.1million of funding if the project does not materialise soon.
Residents were able to hear from representatives of Staffordshire County Council and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) about timelines and planning processes, as well as being given the chance to ask questions about the scheme and wider proposals.
The Labour MP said:
“After a series of delays in submitting the planning applications for this project, it was good to hear a commitment from Staffordshire County Council that the planning permission will be submitted in July 2026 and that the new health centre will be open and ready to receive patients in September 2028.
“But we have heard all this before, so I expect these timelines to be met – and I’ll be in regular contact with the county council and the ICB to offer my support to ensure these promises are kept.”
