Michael Fabricant has urged Conservative supporters in Lichfield and Burntwood not to become complacent ahead of the 2017 General Election.
A meeting of the party’s local association tonight (April 28) saw the area’s current MP reselected as a candidate for the June 8 vote.
Mr Fabricant said he was delighted to be given the chance to represent the party once more.
“It’s wonderful and a great honour to be standing again for the Lichfield and Burntwood constituency,” he said. “It’s a winning love affair.
“I love the Lichfield constituency and I think the feeling is mutual”
Although Mr Fabricant has held the seat in Lichfield since it was formed in its current guise in 1997 and secured a comfortable victory two years ago, he said it was important not to take anything for granted.
“Ignore the polls,” he told members of the local Conservative Association. “The only poll that counts is the one on June 8 – and much can happen in the five weeks between then and now.
“I look forward, if I am re-elected, to continuing to work hard for the people of our part of Staffordshire.”
