Life of soldiers in the trenches during World War One will be explored during a Discovery Day at The Staffordshire Regiment Museum.
The event, on February 17, will allow families to explore the replica trench system and meet uniformed guides as the sound of sniper bullets whizz past and German guns rumble in the distance.
A spokesperson for the Museum in Whittington said: “This extraordinary 500ft trench system contains scrape holes, dugout, gun positions, firing steps, a first-aid position and even a tunnel, used during the period to undermine the enemy trenches that were often just a short way away.
“Ammunition boxes are strewn around, sandbags line the walls, original signage points the way as the visitor is immersed in a professionally created soundscape that takes you straight to the trenches of WWI France.
“Parents and children will also get the chance to try on uniforms, as well as handle weapons and equipment from the time, plus explore the Museum and its fascinating collections of medals (including VC’s) weapons, uniforms, recordings of real WW1 soldiers talking about their experiences and much more.”
Discovery Day tours start at 11am, noon and 1pm. They cost £3 adults and £2 for children and concessions including senior citizens £2. Further tours will take place on bank holidays and Mondays during school holidays.

The Discovery Day tours are amongst a number of events taking place at the Museum to mark the anniversary of World War One, including an Edwardian Fete and Fair on August 3.
