A FRESH application for planning permission to change the use of an industrial unit into an indoor golf facility has been submitted.
Drive In Golf has opened at the site on Cannel Road in Burntwood, offering five Trackman-powered bays so visitors can play courses from around the world.
But Lichfield District Council refused permission for the change of use over "insufficient evidence" relating to whether the unit was viable to remain as it was.
A new planning application has now been submitted.
Nick Bryson, director of LCP Properties Ltd, said:
"The level of market enquiries and activity, particularly in the sub 5,000 sq ft sector has dropped dramatically over the past 18 months.
"Most businesses of this size are new businesses and costs are therefore more critical. Businesses simply can’t afford to open and operate in the current economic climate.
"The exception to that is in the leisure sector, where occupiers can still justify the returns.
"We have therefore diversified the tenant base across the estate with the introduction of occupiers in other sectors.
"The alternative to not proceeding with the proposed change of use is such that the unit, which has already been vacant for two years, will remain empty for an extended period of time, producing no employment use or benefit to the local area."
