Official ‘thrilled and delighted’ by success of Lichfield election count

The official in charge of ensuring Lichfield’s election count went off without a hitch admitted she was “thrilled and delighted” by the success of the evening.

Nina Dawes, Acting Returning Officer for the Lichfield constituency was joined by a team of 75 counters as they brought the declaration in some two hours ahead of schedule.

And while Conservative MP Michael Fabricant celebrated his victory, Nina and her team were busy finishing off their jobs and ensuring the papers were all safely stored away.

She told The Lichfield Blog that the count had run smoothly:

The speedy conclusion of the count pleased many of those who had expected to be in for a long night.

But despite the earlier than scheduled declaration shortly after 2pm, Nina explained why corners couldn’t be cut and that accuracy was the key:
