PETROL heads are gearing up for a celebration of all things cars in Lichfield.

More than 2,000 vehicles are expected to go on display when Cars in the Park returns on Saturday (5th July) and Sunday.

The annual show, organised by Lichfield St Chad Rotary, started with just 40 vehicles in the first year and has grown to now become one of the biggest events of its kind in the country.

It also features a programme of family entertainment, including BMX and birds of prey displays, fairground rides, trade and charity stands, dancing troupes, 4×4 responders and a food village.

The event will raise funds for Lichfield St Chad Rotary and the Stan Bowley Cancer Trust.

Rotarian and Cars in the Park organiser Andrew Maw said:

“We have a large arena for owners to tell the public about their cars and take part in a Best of Show competition. Cars of all ages and makes attend, either as car clubs or as individual entries.

“We have many car dealers displaying their vehicles on professional stands and the public can have a really close look at leisure at new cars as well as classics.

“We especially welcome families and children and there is plenty to amuse them. Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue services will have large displays, while Staffordshire’s own JCB will be showing several of their superb works machines.”

The gates will be open from 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 8am to 4.30pm on Sunday. Entry is free but donations are welcomed.

Andrew added:

“We are grateful to our sponsors this year, without whom there would be no show – and we look forward to seeing you all for one of the biggest events in Lichfield’s calendar.”
