Plans have been submitted for the development on land where the What! shop once stood on Cross Keys.

The land – which is currently used as a car park – had previously received approval for 35 apartments and two shops to be built.

But now McCarthy & Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd has unveiled proposals to create 44 ‘retirement living apartments’.

The new building would also include communal facilities and guest suite.

A statement supporting the application said: “The proposal will provide high quality accommodation which satisfies the needs and demands of the local area.

“It represents a sustainable residential development that will create an attractive and safe living environment.”

Full details of the proposals can be seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
