PLANS for a redesigned bus station in Lichfield have been drawn up.
The proposals have been outlined as part of a planning application for part of the Birmingham Road site.
The scheme will also see the creation of a linear park and a reconfigured car park at Frog Lane.
Lichfield District Council has confirmed the bus station will stay on the existing site after initial plans could have seen it moved to a new location nearer to the train station.
But drawings submitted as part of a planning application show the existing facility will reduce in size.
A statement supporting the proposals said:
“In terms of the reconfigured bus stop provision, this has been discussed with the bus providers and Staffordshire County Council with the level of reconfigured provision confirmed to be acceptable.
“There is a compound planned to the west of the bus station. This is simply a temporary feature which will be the construction compound for a new residential development that is intended to come forwards at the site on the corner of Birmingham Road and St Johns Street.
“That compound is also a future development plot earmarked for regeneration as part of the wider strategic regeneration aims of this area of the city.”
The planning statement added that it was hoped the linear park scheme and wider project would lead to further development opportunities.
“The park is proposed to provide the fulcrum to the sense of place and arrival to the city centre in order to attract further inward investment into the wider site to deliver its ultimate regeneration for commercial and residential uses.”
