The proposal has been drawn up by J&J Properties and Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust for land off the Tamworth Road.

The development would see the creation of a two-storey building, car parking facilities, moorings for boats and canoe storage.

A statement supporting the application said: “Until the canal is fully reconnected to the wider canal network, the basin will be used for day boats and canoeing.

“The facilities building will be used to showcase the canal restoration project and be used as a focus to stimulate interest in the restoration of the canal.

“This development is important in the overall restoration, as it will connect the project via the facilities building to the public, informing them of the progress of the scheme, which will help secure further volunteers and donations. This will speed up the project’s completion by increasing awareness.”

Full details of the proposal can seen on Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
