Police identify man found dead in canal near Lichfield

A man found dead in a canal near Lichfield has been identified.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that the body found in the Trent and Mersey Canal in Handsacre was that of Albert Hunt, aged 79, of Pinfold Drive, Handsacre.

His body was spotted by narrowboaters in the water near the Crown Inn pub at around 6.30am on August 8.

Mr Hunt’s death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a report for Her Majesty’s Coroner.

This is an update concerning the body of a man found in the Trent and Mersey Canal at Handsacre on Sunday morning.

The man has been formally identified as Albert Hunt, aged 79, of Pinfold Drive, Handsacre.

Mr Hunt’s death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a report for Her Majesty’s Coroner.
