STRIKES forcing closures of local schools have been debated at a public meeting in Lichfield.
The event was hosted by Dave Robertson MP following the news that ongoing industrial action by members of the National Education Union (NEU) will continue into February.
The walkouts have taken place in protest at planned redundancies at the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP).
More than 200 people attended the public meeting to discuss the impact of the strikes which have seen local schools fully or partially shut for a number of days already.
The Labour MP said he has continued to meet with both the trust and the union in a bid to find a resolution.
He said:
“It is an incredibly difficult situation for everyone – from students and parents to teachers and staff.
“The public meeting was extremely valuable and it was great to hear directly from people so I can take their questions and concerns to ATLP and the NEU.
“I hope this helps encourage constructive dialogue and leads us closer to a resolution.”
The strikes are set to continue from 26th to 29th January, 2nd to 5th February and 9th to 13th February.
