The covers have come off the refurbished statue of Captain Smith in Lichfield.
The bronze statue of the Titanic’s captain has been conserved and cleaned as part of Lichfield District Council’s and Lichfield City Council’s multi million pound project to transform Beacon Park, The Garden of Remembrance, and Minster Pool and Walk.
Originally unveiled by Edward John Smith’s daughter in 1914, the statue stands in Museum Gardens and was created by sculptor Lady Kathleen Scott.
Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said:
“It is great to see the results of this restoration work. The statue looks fantastic and is a fitting tribute to the memory of RMS Titanic.”
