A report has backed plans to build houses and shops on a former industrial site in Lichfield.
Proposals have been drawn up for the former IMI Norgren factory on Eastern Avenue.
Up to 70 homes could be built, along with a drive-thru restaurant and shops if the scheme gets the go-ahead.
The report, which will be heard by Lichfield District Council’s planning committee on May 8, has recommended councillors approve the proposals, despite the land being earmarked for industrial or business use in the local authority’s Local Plan.
“The applicant has provided sufficient information to demonstrate that the site is no longer viable for such development,” the report explained.
“Its redevelopment for food retail, bulky retail sales, a drive-thru and residential development will not impact upon the vitality or viability of Lichfield city centre and rather would aid in retaining sales within the city, rather than residents travelling elsewhere to such facilities.”
