Lichfield racer Gary Mason might have been new to road racing, but that didn’t stop him landing the top newcomer accolade at the North West 200 event.

The Superbikes star had only been able to take part in limited practice time and had to try and learn the course as he raced.

He improved his laptimes by over six seconds during the two races as he got into the groove at the legendary course.

Mason said:

“I’ve loved the event and the atmosphere. I got so little practice though and was learning where to go as I was racing. I really want to come back and it’s also been vital extra seat time as we’re off to Cadwell next.”

Mason will be back to what he knows best when the British Superbikes Championship kicks back into full swing at Cadwell Park.

But the Lichfield man will again be teamed up with Chris Walker as Simon Andrews continues his comeback from injury.
