A main road out of Lichfield is still closed as highways team battle the aftermath of a weekend of snowfall.

The A51 was closed near Brereton after three trees fell on the carriageway and several others became unstable under the weight of the snow.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire County Council’s gritting and snowplough teams have been working around the clock to clear drifts that have reached up to 12ft on some exposed routes in the county.

Although the snow is due to ease off later today, drivers are being warned to expect further disruption during the Monday morning commute as the snow continues to drift and ice patches develop.
