Royalty will be on hand to celebrate the completion of a £3.7million project to restore Lichfield Cathedral.
The Lady Chapel and historic Herkenrode Glass have been restored as part of the five-year scheme.
A special rededication service will be held in the presence of HRH The Duke of Gloucester on March 10.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, said: “Completing this project is quite a milestone in the Cathedral’s history. We hope our efforts will mean that the east end of the Cathedral is in good shape for another hundred years or so.
“We have kept faith with our predecessors by looking after a priceless treasure and we hand it on to the future with the best of our care and generosity.”
The Herkenrode Glass was installed in Lichfield in 1803 when it was rescued from destruction during the Napoleonic Wars. Having withstood centuries of weather and pollution, action was needed to rescue it – and the glass was removed in 2010 before being restored and resinstalled.
Other work on the project has included repairing stonework in the South and North Choir aisles, replacing some of the external stonework of the Lady Chapel, and the renewal of fabrics including kneelers, cushions, hangings, and the altar frontal.
