Shenstone’s MP calls for changes to university applications process

Published:

An MP has called for a radical change in the university admissions process.

Christopher Pincher, Member of Parliament for Shenstone, Elford and Tamworth, has backed calls for applications to be made after rather than before A level results are known.

He told the BBC’s Politics Show that the current system was unfair to disadvantaged students from the poorest homes and least successful schools whose grades are regularly under-predicted and who often do not go to university.

Mr Pincher added:

“We need to take a leaf out of Mr Obama’s book and say ‘yes we can’ make this change.  It will be a challenge but making the change to post qualification application to university will help the most disadvantaged students.”
