Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner has insisted that officers won’t rest on their laurels despite a fall in crime.
Figures show that 3,397 fewer incidents were reported across the county between April and December 2012, compared to the same period the year before.
Matthew Ellis welcomed the news but said the hard work to tackle criminals in the region would continue.
“It’s a real tribute to police officers and staff that – at a time when budgets are shrinking – crime is still falling and our county’s getting safer,” he said.
“But there’s much more work to do and I am determined to spend every pound of taxpayers’ money more effectively and efficiently.
“The common goal is reducing crime and fear of it. It’s dealing with antisocial behaviour and the causes quickly and it’s policing more visibly so communities feel reassured.
“It’s also tackling drugs at all levels, from ‘pushers’ who sell them to those at the top who make the big money while wrecking lives.”
