The launch of a new squash club in Lichfield has been hailed a success.

The club held a demonstration match and offered visitors a chance to take on a pro on the court at King Edward Leisure Centre.

Lichfield Squash Club has been set up by a group of players from the area in response to a decline in participation in the local league.

“This was a highly successful and high profile launch event, which has already directly led to 30 members signing up for the club, with further commitments to join following on a daily basis,” said chairman James Roberts.

“The club will now be organising its first series of activities and events, including coaching.”

The launch event was attended by leading regional squash professionals Chris Truswell, Sarah-Jane Perry and Jon Tate. Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant also went along to lend his support.

James added: “”The club would like to thank the many organisations and businesses who have helped to make the club and the launch event a success, including Dealmakers Monthly, England Squash and Racketball, Lichfield District Council, Alpha Sports, PDH Sports and Orangesquash UK.

“Particular thanks are offered to Sarah-Jane Perry, Jon Tate, Chris Truswell and Michael Fabricant MP.”
