Two of the current officers have gone from their roles and had posted on social media that they had left due to the roles being cut by the Lichfield Business Improvement District (BID).

But now BID bosses have denied that the posts have been axed – and insisted that the member of staff behind a twitter account for the service had resigned.

In a post on Facebook, the BID spokesperson said: “I would just like to clarify that reports saying that we are getting rid of BID support officers is completely untrue.

“Our existing officer has resigned this week and he set up a twitter account [for the officers] and had control of it. He has been asked to retract this statement and take it down immediately as it is causing unnecessary anxiety.

“Once again I wish everyone to be reassured about our continued commitment to the BID support role as we seek to find new BID support officers in the next few days and weeks.

“We recognise how valued and vital this role is to the city.”

However, one of the former support officers has denied that he resigned, telling Lichfield Live they had been told their services were no longer required at the end of last month.

So far, the original post from the support officers on social media has not been removed – but they have added an update.

“Lichfield BID wish to reassure businesses a service will be in operation soon in the coming weeks,” he said on social media. “The current BID support officer format and staff will have changed, but a physical presence will be returning to the streets.”
